The Investor's Perspective:
A Startup Dream Come True

Dr. Brenda Freshman's "retirement" dream of a legacy career, while living and working in a place of natural beauty, was made a reality when she sold her home in Redondo Beach in 2018. She enjoyed and lived in the 3900 square foot, 4 bedroom, 5 bath, residence for a few years, then desired to move closer to the university campus where she is a full-time professor. At that time, Freshman rented the house to long term tenants. With an ocean view and walking distance to the beach (5-10 mins, depending pace) it was not difficult to keep it occupied at top market rents.

In her mid-50's and planning for retirement, she figured out that the equity in the house could fund her ultimate lifestyle dream for the coming decades. The money from the sale of the Redondo Beach home allowed Freshman to purchase a small real estate portfolio of three residences in Oregon and fund the startup of a transmedia production, Orbis Unum, LLC.

"I'm not thinking about not working," she explained. "I figure there are 20-25 years of strong energy in me to get something done. I want to focus on what is most important, and that is bringing more peace to the planet in the ways that I can."

Hence the founding of Orbis Unum LLC, with the tagline "A socially responsible transmedia production company". "Our operational strategy is to facilitate inner outer peace in ways that matter, in other words, ways that can be measured," Freshman said. She claims that her organization will be able to demonstrate the impact of their work by establishing metrics and tracking outcomes. "As an academic and researcher, and in this world of multiple ways to access and analyze data, it will not be difficult to track outcome measures that make sense regarding impact on inner and outer peace as defined by the project."

"Stay tuned!" Freshman challenged, as the company is just getting started and their first productions of liquid content should be available in the coming year.
